Sustainability
Assess resource use and operating effort together.
The changes associated with a treatment programme must be assessed at the individual plant. This requires a record of the starting condition, operating circumstances and suitable performance indicators.
Chemical use
Record the type and quantity of treatment agents. Any changes must remain compatible with the hygiene and treatment programme.
Water consumption
Compare blowdown and fresh make-up water in relation to water quality and operating conditions.
Energy requirements
Assess heat transfer and energy consumption under comparable operating conditions.
Operating costs
Include product, dosing, testing, maintenance and any system modifications in the calculation.
Include wastewater requirements in the assessment.
Product assessment should also consider discharge conditions and downstream wastewater treatment. Statements about biodegradability or effects on treatment plants require product-specific evidence and review for the intended application.
